Sustainability Policy
Purpose
At Changi Exhibition Centre (CEC), we are committed to reduce our environmental footprint and
foster sustainability in all facets of our event planning and execution. We recognise our responsibility to protect the environment and are dedicated to incorporate eco-friendly practices in our operations.
Responsibility
Experia’s Sustainability Committee oversees the implementation and management of this policy. All Experia staff are responsible for understanding the policy and engaging with relevant stakeholders.
Applications
The principles of this policy should be applied whenever possible and appropriate, in line with our sustainability commitments.
1. Energy Efficiency
Renewable Energy: CEC is committed to progressively increase the use of renewable energy in
its total energy consumption. The venue is powered in part by rooftop solar panels, harnessing
clean energy that significantly reduces the venue’s carbon footprint.
Efficient Lighting: CEC is equipped with LED and energy-efficient lighting. LED technology
consumes up to 80–90% less energy than traditional lighting and has a longer lifespan, which
reduces both maintenance needs and waste generation. This not only lowers the venue’s carbon
footprint but also ensures a more sustainable operational environment.
2. Waste Management
Zero-Waste Objective: CEC is committed to a zero-waste objective by striving to minimise landfill waste through reduction, reuse and recycling practices. Waste is segregated at source, and
usable event materials are repurposed where possible, ensuring resources are recycled or re
used whenever possible.
Digital-First Approach: By adopting a digital-first mindset, CEC reduces its reliance on printed materials. Event programmes, registration, tickets and promotional content are delivered
electronically, minimising paper use hence lowering the environmental impact.
Sustainable Materials: CEC encourages the use of sustainable materials for events, including
biodegradable, recyclable and reusable options. Materials used for items such as signages,
carpets, badges and lanyards are selected with sustainability in mind, with collection points
provided to facilitate reuse or recycling after events.
3. Sustainable Food & Beverage
Sourcing: CEC prioritises locally sourced food options, reducing the environmental impact of
long-distance transportation while supporting local producers and communities.
Minimise Single-Use Plastics: CEC promotes the use of reusable or biodegradable packaging,
cutlery and cups. Water refill stations are available throughout the venue, and attendees are
encouraged to bring refillable bottles instead of relying on single-use plastics.
Meal Options: CEC supports sustainable dining by encouraging event organisers to have a variety
of plant-based meal options, which have a significantly lower environmental footprint compared
to meat-based alternatives.
4. Water Conservation
Mindful Consumption: CEC encourages event organisers to provide water refill stations,
promoting responsible consumption and reducing single-use plastic bottles. Attendees are urged
to refill only as needed, helping to minimise water wastage.
Sustainable Facilities: CEC is equipped with water-efficient facilities, including low-flow taps and sensors, to reduce overall water usage in the venue. These measures ensure essential resources are conserved while maintaining a high-quality experience for all users.
5. Green Event Partnerships
CEC collaborates with vendors, suppliers and sponsors who share our commitment to
sustainability. Preference is given to partners that provide eco-friendly products, services and
practices, ensuring that events held at the venue align with our environmental and social
responsibility goals.
6. Education and Awareness
Sustainability Messaging: CEC promotes its sustainability initiatives to event organisers and
attendees, encouraging their participation in eco-conscious practices.
Internal Communication: Foster a culture of sustainability within the Company by regularly
communicating the importance of environmental responsibility and encouraging employee
participation in sustainable initiatives.
7. Social Responsibility
Sustainable Vendors: Collaborate with vendors and sponsors that prioritise sustainability by offering eco-friendly products, services or practices.
Community Engagement: Foster strong connections with local communities and prioritise local
over overseas vendors.
Diversity and Inclusion: Ensure the venue and office environment is accessible and inclusive,
fostering diversity among participants, staff, and vendors. Commit to equitable hiring practices
that promote equal opportunities for individuals from diverse backgrounds.
Sustainability Messaging: Promote the event’s sustainability initiatives to attendees, encouraging their active participation in eco-conscious practices.
Promote equal opportunities and encourage a diverse range of voices and perspectives across all
levels of venue management.
